The Best Harry Potter Gifts
All the fun Harry Potter toys, games, and gear for any occasion
We are big Harry Potter fans in our house, and when it comes to Christmas or birthdays, Harry Potter gifts are an easy idea that are always popular. No matter how old or young your Harry Potter fan may be, I have gathered many of my favorite Harry Potter gifts together. There are gifts at almost every price point for any budget — grand gifts to stocking stuffers.
Harry Potter Books: Hardback, Illustrated, and Audiobooks
We should start at the beginning as the whole phenomenon did: with the books. If the child in your life hasn’t read the books, this is a great place to begin. The gift trunk with hard copies of each book makes a lovely gift. And if your reader is already into the original volumes, consider some of the supplemental books which aren’t as meaty, but are still fun reads. A note, though, many books like The Creature Vault have spoilers and depend heavily on the movies. I have been careful not to introduce those until we were well past them in the book series.
Another book idea: the Harry Potter Audiobooks. We have listened to all of them multiple times through my Audible subscription, and they are amazing. Actor Jim Dale reads each volume, and he does ALL of the voices. It is truly remarkable!
Since my son doesn’t have his own device yet, we listen on my phone or on an iPad. But Audible is available on most streaming devices as are all seven Harry Potter books.
We also LOVE the Harry Potter illustrated volumes. And don’t think these are just for children. Jim Kay’s rich illustrations add another dimension to the text and make for a completely different reading experience. We read the unillustrated versions first, but now that my child is reading the books on his own, he often enjoys reading the illustrated versions independently — or just paging through and enjoying the drawings.
Vera Bradley: Harry Potter Collection
Last year I gobbled up the Vera Bradley Harry Potter collaboration! I bought myself a little bag, and I gave several people pieces from their darling collection. Now they have two new patterns this year, and I know I’ll be giving some more again! I adore both patterns, and I’ve always been a fan of Vera Bradley bags. My favorite part — you have to look closely to know that the patterns are Harry Potter. The subtlety is delightful.

Harry Potter Games
There are a LOT of Harry Potter games out there, and to be honest: a lot of them are terrible. I do NOT recommend the Magical Beasts game, for example. It is really boring. But we LOVE Harry Potter Clue! It’s just like classic Clue but with a HP twist. And where Trivial Pursuit requires that everyone has seen ALL of the movies (and read all of the books), Scrabble and Uno don’t require any knowledge at all. And Wizard Chess is of a non-lethal variety, thankfully!
Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak
Is it a costume piece? A game? I don’t even know, but the Harry Potter Invisibilty Cloak is really cool! It’s a fun costume piece, but then with the download of an app, it becomes a piece of theatre. Using greenscreen technology, the person wearing the cloak appears invisible in video or photographs via the app. My child has spent HOURS playing with this — even while zooming with friends. Thank heavens we had this before the pandemic!
The Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak is really fun — especially for kids who like to create theatrical events and imaginative play.
Harry Potter Lego Sets
If there’s someone in your life who is into Lego, there are dozens of Harry Potter Lego sets — at almost any budget point, too. If you are working with a smaller budget, the minifigures are a great place to start. And the Advent Calendar is filled with 25 little surprises which can be a fun holiday event. There are also grand sets with thousands of pieces for more ambitious builders.
For kids who really like to PLAY with their Lego after it is built, the Hogwarts Moment sets are quite fun! They aren’t a challenging build, but put together they create different rooms in Hogwarts and each contains several minifigs for exciting play. My child loves to use them to create stopmotion movies, too.
Harry Potter Clothes
My child outgrew his Boden Harry Potter clothes far too fast, but we have supplemented with other items. He is particularly partial to HP socks, and wears them almost every day. They can be had for every house and with all kinds of fun designs. Life is too short for boring socks!
Harry Potter Stuffed Animals and Toys
We really love stuffed animals in our house, too, so the magical creatures from the Harry Potter films have made their way into our lives, too. Honestly, they are so cute! And that Time Turner — I know exactly who will be getting that for Christmas this year!
Funko Pop Harry Potter Action Figures
Here’s another inexpensive but fun toy. And lots of people collect these as room decor — not just for playing. I love the kawaii approach to these figures — big eyes and cartoon faces. They are a fun and inexpensive gift!
Harry Potter School Supplies
Fancy pens, pencils, and notebooks always make a good gift — particularly for the students in your life. But honestly, who doesn’t want a cute pencil at work, too! And stickers, pencil cases — any time is a good time for an infusion of fresh office supplies.
Harry Potter Arts & Crafts
These books are so fun with good instructions and illustrations. Pair the watercolor magic book with some watercolors and paper. Or a sketch book and some markers along with the hand lettering book. And who doesn’t want to learn to play the Harry Potter soundtrack on recorder? I mean, really!
I hope this list of ideas has inspired you in your gift giving! Thank you for supporting Mid Modern Mama with your purchases, too! Be sure to check out all of the different lists in the Mid Modern Mama Giving Guides!
