Toja Grid Outdoor Furniture
When we finished construction on the Shade House, I was absolutely in love with it. It’s a gorgeous space, and filling it with plants was a summer pleasure. But it was empty. We needed furniture to complete our vision of a place to relax and enjoy Colorado’s seasons all year long. We don’t have a garage, so we needed durable furniture that would stand up to Colorado’s harsh changes in weather as well as the additional UV exposure at our altitude, too. I didn’t want anything that was plastic as plastic degrades much more quickly at altitude (not to mention the other issues with plastic in general). And I wanted furniture that would LAST. Outdoor furniture is too expensive to have to replace it every few years.
Enter: Toja Grid.

Durable Outdoor Furniture
Toja Grid’s outdoor furniture is made of steel and wood. It’s solidly built, and, frankly, will probably last longer than we will. It’s a great, eco-friendly option for a variety of reasons. The furniture itself is plastic-free (except for some tiny covers that go over the screws). You supply the wood which saves on shipping and cuts down on the furniture’s carbon footprint. The cushions are made from Sunbrella fabrics, so they will last a very long time.
The best part, in my opinion, is that you can reconfigure the furniture if your needs change. Want to turn a chair into a couch? Just change out the wood pieces for longer ones and add another set of cushions. Need a longer coffee table? Again, just change out the lumber. If you move, and the furniture is too big or too small, you can easily alter it to fit your new space. That’s quite radical!
How do you build your Toja Grid furniture?
The principles are the same no matter what piece of furniture you are assembling. Choose your lumber and cut it to size. The chairs and couches each use seven 4x4 lengths — depending on how wide your seating will be. The tables, benches, and chairs use 2x6’s and are designed to use standard lumber lengths. There is very little wood waste when configuring your furniture — something we truly appreciate! And most lumber stores will cut wood when you buy it if you don’t have a chop saw or a circular saw to do it at home.
Once the lumber is cut to length, all you need is a drill or driver with a Phillips head bit. Seriously. It’s that easy. I will say, though, one person can do the work, but it is much easier with 2-3 people. Much easier!
Additionally, you might want to use a sander on the wood. And staining or sealing — well, that’s up to you. Once the wood seasons, we will apply boiled linseed oil to the exposed wood, but that’s a project for down the road.
Our Outdoor Furniture Sets
Modern Muskoka Seating
Our main seating area consists of two Modern Muskoka Sofa Kits and a Modern Muskoka Coffee Table. These two-cushion couches are perfect for napping, reading, and chilling with friends.
Modern Muskoka Slim
While Toja Grid does not currently offer the Modern Muskoka Slim sets, we got one of the last ones. The cushions are the grey color, and the slightly slimmer arms are great for smaller areas. The coffee table shown is the standard Modern Muskoka Coffee Table which is a fabulous size.
Modern Muskoka Dining
In our dining area, we have the Modern Muskoka 5-piece Outdoor Dining Set. This fabulous table is nearly 9 feet long and seats 10 people comfortably (with the addition of a chair at either end). The benches seat 2 people or 3 children, and they push in under the table when not in use.
Toja Grid Hoodie Covers
With snow, wind, rain, hail, and everything else that we encounter here in Colorado, I want to protect our furniture when we aren’t using it. Toja Grid’s Hoodie Covers are ingenious. They cover the cushions completely and truly keep the moisture off — even in heavy snow! They come in a range of sizes and snap on to the furniture so they won’t blow away. So much easier than trying to store the cushions elsewhere to protect them!
Stylish Outdoor Living
We wanted an outdoor living space that is an extension of our home — comfortable, stylish, and easy to maintain. I’m so pleased with out Toja Grid furniture, and I can’t wait for summer living to start this year!
