How to Start a Cutting Garden

Since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamed about being able to go out into my yard and cut a bouquet of flowers — just like they do in books and movies. But I have never really had the space or the right place for a true cutting garden. Until now! Finally, I have a garden big enough and well-established that I can grow flowers specifically for bouquets and not worry about stripping the best blooms out of the rest of the garden.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to have a big garden to have a cutting garden. Not at all. A cutting garden can be grown in containers. It can grow on a porch or a patio or in amongst your other flowers. My perception — that I needed a big garden — was completely wrong! So this year I am starting my very own cutting garden nearly from scratch. I have chosen the location — six sunny raised beds. I have started some seeds. And now it is time to get growing!

I have certainly grown flowers before. Indeed, this area has been my cutting garden before. But last year it just didn’t get the love and attention it needed, so it is time for a reset. But this is a great time for us all, because I’ll be walking you through setting up my cutting garden step by step, and YOU can do it, too!

AND I’m hosting a Grow Along, so anyone who wants to start their own cutting garden can grow right along with me!

I have all of the resources you need here (scroll and watch) — and will add more over time. So consider this Grow Along Central.
