How to Install Shade Sails
An easy way to put up shade sails over a patio, pool, or garden
We have installed shade sails in several places in our yard. They are an inexpensive and simple way to create shade in your yard. But installing them can be a little tricky, and over the years we have developed a simple method which makes the whole process easier. So many shade sails come with incomplete instructions or are designed to be installed permanently. But in colder climates, you need to be able to take a shade sail down for the winter to avoid damage from snow loads. That’s why we came up with this easy connect technique. We put our shade sails up in the spring and take them down in the fall.
Note: If your shade sails came with detailed instructions, by all means, follow those. But you can adapt those instructions to include a carabiner at each connection point for quick installation and release as needed.
Materials:
Shade Sail
Carabiners: 1 for each attachment point
Paracord
Screw Eyes
Drill and Bits
Tape Measure
Utility Knife
A note about shade sails: we have used several brands over the years. Coolaroo sent us one of their shade sails to try, and we were very impressed with the quality of their product. They are not sponsoring this post at all, but I can certainly recommend their shade sails as being high quality and durable.
